Road Works and Traffic Disruption on A422

Dear All,

Milton Keynes Council’s Highways Structures Team, in collaboration with Ringway, will be carrying out essential bridge refurbishment works at Newport Road between Chicheley and Astwood.

Swans River Bridge (MKC Structure No. 92461) is located at A422, Newport Road, (MK16 9JW), over Chicheley Brook.

This scheme forms part of Milton Keynes Council ongoing commitment to upgrading and improving the bridge stock and road network.

Bridge works are due to start mid-January 2017 and are expected to last for up to 6 to 8 weeks.

In order to minimise traffic congestion, works will be split in two phases.

 Phase 1 – From January 2017:

Work activities will be carried out within the verges (not within the carriageway area) using off-peak traffic management between 9:30 – 16:30hrs under lane closures (Monday to Friday). Other times, the road will be fully open to traffic in both directions.

A temporary 30mph speed restriction will be introduced for safety reasons over the bridge site until the completion of the works.

 Phase 2 – Summer 2017:

The section under the carriageway between the kerbs, will be undertaken in conjunction with the Highways team’s ‘surface treatment works’ under full road closures.

Please see attached information sheet for further details.

The Council apologises for the delays but these are inevitable as a consequence of undertaking these important works.

We shall update both the MKC website and our Twitter feed with further information in the near future.
